The First Year - more information

A great deal of care is taken in this year towards training/retraining and education, in particular those students with difficult physiques or with minimal dance experience. All students at this level are encouraged to respect their bodies and to understand and work within their physical limitations thus minimising risk of injury.

Major ISTD exams in Classical Ballet, Modern and Tap are available to all years as extra curricular. Fees upon request.

The aims of the 1st foundation year are:

  • To introduce students to the fundamental principles of each subject
  • To provide a thorough grounding in technique and theoretical understanding of the subject matter
  • To identify weakness and retrain faulty technique
  • To develop students intellectually so that they may become 'thinking performers'
  • To develop confidence
  • To establish an awareness of a dancers/performers life style for the purpose of developing a healthy, thinking, able dancer/performer, capable of meeting the necessary professional challenges.

Subjects will include classical ballet, commercial jazz, technical jazz, modern, tap, contemporary, pas de deux, fitness, acting, musical theatre, improvisation skills, characterisation, speech, singing and anatomy. Choreographic and vocal performances will take place in the 1st term, giving the student an opportunity to develop confidence, creativity and performance.

The Second Year - more information

One of the primary objectives of the 2nd year is for the students to begin to focus on their potential career path. In the final term students discuss the area/areas in which they wish to specialise in during their third year. At this stage of the course students have more of an opportunity to gain performing experience.

The aims of the 2nd year are:

  • To build on what has been learned in the first /foundation year, with emphasis on furthering strength and broadening technique
  • To encourage an analytical and artistic approach to the practical and theoretical challenges.
  • To develop individual potential both technically and artistically
  • To identify areas of potential for specialisation
  • To prepare for the 3rd/Graduation year

Subjects will include classical ballet, commercial jazz, technical jazz, theatre jazz, pas de deux, modern, tap, contemporary, fitness, audition technique, acting, musical theatre, improvisation skills, characterisation, sight reading, speech and singing. Choreographic and vocal performances will once again take place in the 1st term, giving the student further opportunity to develop confidence, creativity and performance.

The Third Year - more information

Students are exposed to a variety of visiting choreographers, musical directors and casting directors, in preparation for the commercial theatre and television. Prominence is given to audition techniques and developing a professional portfolio. Time is now spent on subjects which have a direct relevance to their immediate career. Core subjects such as ballet, jazz, acting and singing are still followed. Students at this level have three performances, which take place at the end of each term.

The aims of the 3rd/Graduation year are:

  • To streamline and build on what has been achieved in the first and second year within the view of the chosen career
  • To establish a career path.
  • To develop individual talent to a professional level and thereby strengthen the opportunity for employment
  • To understand the workings and expectations of the professional community and therefore developing the confidence for auditions and interviews.
  • To enhance overall performing and auditioning experience

Subjects will include classical ballet, commercial jazz, technical jazz, theatre jazz, pas de deux, modern, tap, contemporary, fitness, mock audition classes, acting, musical theatre, improvisation skills, characterisation, sight reading, speech and singing. Choreographic and vocal performances will again take place in the 1st term, giving the student an opportunity to showcase creativity and performance.
